Former Eagles coach was applauded for his volunteer work to save the historic ship at a reception held at Independence Seaport Museum on Friday, June 15, 2012. Vermeil, 75, recorded a public-service announcement to aid Conservancy’s efforts. Members of the Black Clergy of Philadelphia and Vicinity announce details of free health fair at news conference, held at First African Baptist church,1608 Christian Street in South Philadelphia today.

These events are free and open to the public and begin this Saturday, June 9, with information and presentations provided by the Einstein Healthcare Network and Screenings provided by Mercy Life and Mercy Home Health. The fairs begin this Saturday at First African Baptist, located at 1608 Christian Street (9-12 Noon) and continue on the 16^th (Tenth Memorial (1328 North 19^th St.); the 23^rd at Resurrection Baptist (5401 Lansdowne Ave) and Mt Zion Baptist of Germantown (41 West Rittenhouse St); and June 30^th (Greater Faith Baptist, 4301 Baring St), Mt. Zion Baptist of Holmesburg (8101 Erdick Street) and Mt. Airy Church of God in Christ (6401 Ogontz Avenue). A unique Memorial Day service was held on at Laurel Hill Cemetery in Philadelphia. A reenactment of the First such service held in Philadelphia (Decoration Day) in 1868.

The service was actually three events and the hundreds of attendees marched almost a mile (many in hot period costume) to the last service, followed by refreshments. The first event

was dedication of a grave marker for SGT Alfred G. Bunn, killed at Gettysburg. The second at the Grave of General George Gordon Meade, hero of Gettysburg, for the keynote address, and the third in the Grand Army of the Republic for wreath laying.
